Solving the Range of a Set of Data

 The Range is the one of important concepts in statistics.  Generally the word ‘range’ represents variation that is the variation between the highest value and the lowest value.  In this topic we have to study about how to solve the range of a set of given data through example problems.

 

Brief Explanation of Solving the Range of a Set of Data

 

Example 1:

The points for the football match is described in the following data 19, 14, 12, 10, 7, 16, 20, and 2. Solving the range value for given set of data.

Solution:

The given values are 19, 14, 12, 10, 7, 16, 20, and 2.

Here the highest point is 20 and the lowest point is 2. Therefore the range value is equal to

Highest value – lowest value

That is 20-2

Subtracting these values we have to get,

Range =18

This is the range value for the given football match points.

 

Example 2:

Steven list out 10 set of decimals on his note book. They are 0.5,0.8,0.2,0.1,1.2,1.5,2.0,2.5,0.6,1.3 . Solving the range value for given set of data.

Solution:

The given values are 0.5, 0.8, 0.2, 0.1, 1.2, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 0.6, and 1.3.

Here the highest decimal value is 2.5 and the lowest decimal value is 0.1. Therefore range is equal to

Highest value – lowest value

That is 2.5-0.1

Subtracting these values we have to get,

Range =2.4

This is the range value for the given set of decimals.

Example 3:

The annual marks of the person is list out has 90, 80,65,75,70,92,76,88. Solving the range value for given set of data.

Solution:

The given values are 90, 80,65,75,70,92,76,88.

Here the highest mark value is 92 and the lowest mark value is 65. Therefore range is equal to

Highest value – lowest value

That is 92-65

Subtracting these values we have to get,

Range =27

This is the range value for the given set of marks.
